Faith Stories

Real people. Real journeys. Real faith.
Stories from people in our community about faith, life, challenges and God’s faithfulness.

My boss wished me “Happy Anniversary!” earlier today. I then realised that 12 March marks my work anniversary in ITE, as I joined on 12 March 2018. This has become the longest workplace I have served in, longer than my previous 7½ years at APSN Katong School.

Reflecting on 32 years of working life, I am deeply grateful that by God’s grace I have never been without a job or laid off. Even during difficult seasons, God sent people — both Christian and non-Christian colleagues — who encouraged and uplifted me. Truly, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17, ESV).

Looking back, I see how God led me through many unexpected opportunities: becoming a licensed swimming coach, a registered counsellor, and developing skills in teaching, counselling, and coaching.

Without God’s guidance, I would not have trained at the National Institute of Education, visited Okayama, Japan (2002), coached the Singapore team at the Special Olympics in Fuzhou (2010), represented ITE College East at the AHEAD Conference in Portland (2023), or joined the Youth Expedition Project to Sichuan (2024).

Indeed, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9, ESV). I thank God for His faithful leading.

Bee Kwee

Widowed at 38 with 2 young children; helpless, I continued with my banking job.

As the salary I earned was not enough to support my family, I prayed for another job. God was gracious and answered my prayer.

At 40 I was still worried and I prayed that I could continue to work till old age.

God’s plan began to unfold. I was led to a TCM clinic when I frequently injured my arm playing pickleball. My master treated me and offered me a part-time job. I started to work 2 jobs daily for 4 years.

The difficulties I faced in the clinic were challenging. My master changed the registration into English and dispensed medicine with numbers. He sawed the bed to my height and taught me massage. God had His way and everything was made possible for me.

God prompted me to quit my job when my master sponsored me a massage course but I continued to work in the clinic. I knew God would provide. Psalm 124 – IF NOT FOR THE LORD, who put skill and intelligence into me, I would not have graduated. Now at 70, I’ve been running a sports therapy shop for 23 years.

Carina

I never had a passion for physiotherapy, but God had placed me in a 4 year course in University. In my third year, I had a hospital placement where I had a nightmare supervisor. She caused me such extreme stress that I went through memory loss on a daily basis. Everyday I cried to God, asking why I had to go through so much pain and suffering for a course He put me into. On the last day of clinicals, I told her I didn’t want to be a physiotherapist anymore and made a resolution to never work in a hospital. However, God impressed upon my heart that the 4 years of physiotherapy school were for a reason, and I found myself searching for jobs within the community sector and in a specialisation that I enjoyed – paediatrics. Fast forward a year later, I love going to work everyday. I now know I have a purpose in treating kids with disabilities and special needs, and have a great experience working in the community. Looking back on past experiences, if God didn’t bring me through the suffering that was my last placement, I would never have considered working where I do now. In Genesis, we learnt that God can sometimes use suffering for our good, and this is my first hand experience.
